Human Slavery: When Will it End?
This story touched my heart hence I think it’s worth mentioning here. A helpless young Haitian girl, wishing and hoping someday someone would come and help free her from her mistress. I know this happens in Nigeria, in Africa, and many places around the globe, including the developed nations.
If humans can be so cruel to each other and don’t seem to worry about facing any consequences in this day and age, the government of these countries isn’t doing enough to stop these atrocities. Like many developing countries, Haiti is a very poor country where human rights are always violated and many underprivileged people are pushed aside and left to rot.
From the child soldiers in Africa, to the child slavery in Haiti, what lessons are we giving our kids? When I was growing up in Nigeria, our teachers whipped and beat us up. To them, it was normal. I was so afraid of the beating that sometimes, I would pretend to be sick so I could stay at home even though I knew that could get me in more trouble.
Thousands of Nigerians are sex slaves in Italy and many other European countries. They were tricked into going overseas to have a better life. Even though part of the blame goes to these countries for allowing this to continue, there are also many Nigerians whose business is to help traffic young girls from Nigeria to these countries. They make enough money to cover up their crime. Until these people are punished, until these people are brought to justice for the physical and emotional torture they give to these kids and prevent this from happening, these children will continue to face a very gloomy future.
